The PlayStation Portal has never been discounted before, but you can now snag a great deal on a used one. Amazon Resale, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, currently offers the PlayStation Portal in "Used: Like New" condition for just $149.88, shipped. This represents a significant 25% savings off the original retail price of $199. While a Sony warranty may not be included, all Amazon Resale items come with the same 30-day return policy as new purchases. Given the popularity of this item, we anticipate it will sell out quickly.

The PS Portal, Sony's innovative handheld gaming accessory for the PS5 console, resembles an extended split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen nestled in the middle. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device by streaming games from your console at up to 60fps. The controller incorporates the same advanced features found on the DualSense, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface in place of the traditional touchpad. The Portal enables streaming of your games even when you're away from home, provided you have access to a very stable, very fast internet connection. However, it's important to note that the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it is strictly a remote player for the PlayStation 5, requiring a PS5 to function.
Excitingly, you no longer need a PS5 to enjoy games on the PS Portal. Sony has introduced a feature allowing owners to stream games directly from its PlayStation Now cloud streaming service. This means you can connect the Portal either to your PS5 or directly to Sony’s cloud servers, thanks to recent quality of life beta updates launched in April. Opt for the latter, and you gain access to a library of over 120 games, including titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. To utilize this feature, you must subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 a month—an attractive alternative to investing $500 in a console plus an additional $70 per game.
It's worth mentioning that the PlayStation Portal isn't the only method for streaming PS5 games over Wi-Fi within your home. You can achieve similar functionality by downloading the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device, including other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, this setup is more complex and lacks some of the DualSense's unique features.
PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy
"The PlayStation Portal is the most surprising device I've ever come away from loving after initially approaching it with skepticism. It offers a significantly better experience than using your phone with an attached controller, and it performs far better than I had anticipated. I truly appreciate the freedom it provides to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi coverage, especially when my family is using the TV to play the Switch. It's important to keep in mind that it's not a standalone device and requires a PlayStation 5 to function. The major drawbacks preventing the Portal from being a truly remarkable device are its current inability to access WiFi networks that require a web browser to log in, and its lack of Bluetooth support for audio. Despite these limitations, it's a great device that offers the best current solution for PlayStation Remote Play. If it weren't for these two significant caveats, I'd consider it a must-own for every PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or needs to share the household TV."
