Sony is winding down its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, less than three years after its debut.
The rewards initiative has stopped accepting new members as of today. Current members who cancel their enrollment will not be able to rejoin, and any accumulated points will be permanently forfeited upon cancellation.
Otherwise, existing participants can continue earning points until July 23, 2025, and have until November 3, 2026, to redeem any remaining point balance.
Sony has clarified that despite the program's conclusion, the Digital Collectibles from PlayStation Stars will remain accessible for the foreseeable future. This means your collection, including 3D models like the Jim Ryan bobblehead, will still be viewable for some time.
"Since the program's launch, we've gained valuable insights by evaluating the activities our players engage with most. As a company, we consistently adapt to evolving player preferences and industry trends," stated Grace Chen, PlayStation's vice president of network advertising, loyalty, and licensed merchandise, in a PlayStation Blog post.
"Following this review, we've chosen to refocus our efforts and will be phasing out the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to assess the key takeaways from this initiative and explore new ways to apply these insights."
Sony did not announce a direct replacement for the program, and it remains unclear what specific findings the company gleaned from operating PlayStation Stars.

PlayStation Stars launched in July 2022 as a way to reward PS5 owners. Members earned points with real monetary value based on PlayStation Store purchases and by completing various tasks, such as participating in surveys or trying out specific games and system features.
The program positioned itself as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox Rewards. Over time, both loyalty schemes have been adjusted, becoming less lucrative for participants.
PlayStation Stars experienced a month-long service outage last summer. Then, in October, Sony implemented several changes, including reducing the points expiration window from 24 months to 12 months and removing PlayStation Plus subscriptions as eligible purchases for earning points. Now, the program is being discontinued entirely.
