Pokémon Go Director on Scopely: No Need for Fan Concern

Author : Benjamin Apr 02,2025

Following the recent acquisition of Pokémon Go developer Niantic by Scopely, the company behind Monopoly Go, fans have expressed concerns over increased ads and data privacy. However, a reassuring interview with Michael Steranka, a product director at Pokémon Go, featured on Polygon, aims to alleviate these worries.

In the interview, Steranka praised Scopely and highlighted a shared vision between the two companies. He confidently stated that Scopely would not introduce intrusive ads into Pokémon Go. Addressing privacy concerns head-on, Steranka assured that Niantic would never share or sell player data to third parties. He emphasized that the transition to working under Scopely would minimally impact Niantic's team, if at all.

If it ain't broke...While some may worry about corporate influence, I believe Scopely will not heavily alter Pokémon Go's operations. The game remains highly successful, and the focus might shift more towards Niantic's new AR development team. Steranka also pointed out the significant involvement of The Pokémon Company in decision-making, suggesting that any changes they wouldn't approve of are unlikely to happen.
