This guide details how to obtain Bagon, Shelgon, and Salamence in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Bagon, a Dragon-type Pokémon evolving into the powerful Salamence, is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. This guide covers locating Bagon, transferring it to Scarlet, and evolving it.
Finding Bagon (Pokémon Violet):
Bagon can be found in several locations in Pokémon Violet:
- East Province (Area Three): This expansive area features numerous caves ideal for exploration.
- South Province (Area Five): A fixed Bagon spawn exists atop a mountain southwest of the bridge between the grassy and rocky regions.
- Dalizapa Passage: Located north of the Great Crater and south of Glaseado Mountain, this area offers a deep hole (accessible by Koraidon/Miraidon or on foot) containing various rare Pokémon, including Bagon and Frigibax.
- 3-Star Tera Raids: Once you've obtained three Gym Badges, you can encounter Bagon in 3-star Tera Raids. Note that its Tera Type might differ from its regular type. These raids may also yield Bagon with its Hidden Ability.
Obtaining Bagon in Pokémon Scarlet:
Since Bagon isn't naturally found in Scarlet, you'll need to utilize trading or Pokémon HOME:
- Trading: Join a Union Circle group to trade with a Pokémon Violet player. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online features.
- Pokémon HOME: Transfer Bagon from compatible games (Pokémon Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, or Pokémon HOME itself). Instructions:
- Open HOME, select the source game, and move Bagon to the Basic Box.
- Open your Pokémon Scarlet game and transfer Bagon from the Basic Box to a PC Box.

Evolving Bagon:
- Bagon to Shelgon: Level up Bagon to level 30.
- Shelgon to Salamence: Level up Shelgon to level 50. Auto-battling against appropriately leveled Pokémon (like Chansey, found in various locations across Paldea) or using Exp. Candy are efficient methods.

You can also obtain Shelgon and Salamence from higher-level Tera Raids (4-star and 5/6-star respectively).
Salamence's Viability:
Salamence, a Dragon/Flying pseudo-legendary Pokémon (600 base stat total), is a powerful addition to any team.

- Stats: High Attack stat makes it an excellent physical attacker. A recommended Nature is Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack) or Lonely (+Attack, -Defense).
- Type Effectiveness: Super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon, but it has a quadruple weakness to Ice-type moves, and other weaknesses to Fairy, Dragon, and Rock-type moves.
- Recommended Moves: Physical moves like Dragon Claw are recommended, alongside Iron Head (TM099) to counter weaknesses. If using as a Special Attacker, consider a Timid nature and moves like Draco Meteor and Flamethrower.
This comprehensive guide ensures you can successfully add Salamence to your Pokémon Scarlet and Violet team.
