Surviving a zombie apocalypse in Project Zomboid requires more than just finding shelter; securing that shelter is crucial. One of the most effective ways to do this is by barricading windows. This guide shows you how.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To barricade a window, you'll need a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these, right-click the window. Your character will automatically begin boarding it up. Each window can hold up to four planks for increased protection.
Finding the Materials:
Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets—anywhere you might expect to find hardware. Wooden planks are commonly found at construction sites, or you can salvage them by breaking down wooden furniture like shelves and chairs. Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks you add, the more time it takes for them to break through. To remove planks, right-click them and select "Remove." You'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Important Note:
Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators, etc.) cannot be used as effective barricades; players and zombies will simply pass through them. However, knowing how to move furniture is still useful for interior design.
For even stronger defenses, consider metal bars or sheets, but you'll need sufficient Metalworking skill.
