Patapon’s Spiritual Successor Ratatan Unveils New Gameplay Trailer
Trailer Features Gameplay and Boss Battle
The highly anticipated Ratatan, the spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series, has just released an exciting gameplay trailer during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025. Developed by Ratatan Works, the trailer offers fans an immersive look at the game's mechanics, including a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab.
Ratatan combines the rhythm and roguelike elements into a captivating side-scrolling action experience. A standout feature is the online co-op mode, which supports up to four players, allowing them to control up to 100 characters in a massive melee battle. This game is the brainchild of Hiroyuki Kotani, the original creator of Patapon, and features music by the renowned Patapon composer, Kemmei Adachi.
The game's successful Kickstarter campaign in 2023 has already hit its console launch stretch goal, ensuring a release on multiple platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
Ratatan's closed beta test is scheduled to commence on February 27, 2025, as announced on their Kickstarter page. Kazuto Sakajiri, the game's producer, shared that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and received positive feedback on the Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo.
However, the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the development team is focusing on perfecting the closed beta. They aim to deliver an enhanced demo for the Steam Next Festival in June. Sakajiri detailed that the initial closed beta build will include gameplay up to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively throughout the month-long test period. Further details regarding code distribution, start date, and time will be communicated via Discord and X.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build for this innovative rhythm roguelike game.
