Across the vast and treacherous landscapes of Eora, the journey through the Living Lands in Avowed is fraught with danger. Fortunately, you won't have to face these challenges alone. Avowed offers four distinct Companions, each bringing unique personalities and a suite of upgradable abilities to enhance your adventure. Here's a detailed look at every Companion you can recruit in Avowed.
Kai
Kai is among the first Companions you'll encounter in Avowed. While you meet two characters during the tutorial level, Kai is the first official Companion to join your party. You'll meet him early in the game at the port of Dawnshore near Paradis. Kai approaches you on the dock, and you'll team up to find the Ambassador and the Cleric. He'll remain in your party until you recruit three Companions, at which point you can swap him out at a Party Camp.
In Avowed, Kai is a fierce ex-mercenary with a compassionate side. In combat, he serves as a tank, capable of both sustaining and dealing significant damage. Additionally, Kai can use his fire abilities to clear obstructions like cobwebs and roots, which can be crucial for uncovering hidden pathways and securing valuable loot.
Kai's upgradable abilities include:
- Fire and Ire, Active: Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, dealing high stun damage to a single enemy and taunting them for 10 seconds.
- Unbending Defense, Active: Kai regenerates his health and boosts his damage reduction by 25%.
- Leap of Daring, Active: Kai performs a mighty leap onto enemies, stunning and taunting all nearby foes.
- Second Win, Passive: When Kai's health drops to zero, he revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.
Marius
Marius is the second Companion you'll meet in Avowed. He shares a history with Kai and can be found in Dawnshore. Marius joins your party at a bar, where you can either use diplomacy to resolve a conflict or help him fight off some aggressive NPCs.
As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius brings a unique set of skills to the table. His Hunter Sense ability aids in locating loot and crafting materials throughout the Living Lands. In combat, Marius utilizes a bow and arrow and daggers, tapping into his wild side. He can also manipulate nature to trap enemies with roots.
Marius's upgradable abilities are:
- Binding Roots, Active: Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
- Heart Seeker, Active: Marius fires a piercing shot that always hits its target and can pass through obstacles.
- Shadow Step, Active: Marius vanishes into smoke, reappearing near an enemy to slash them with his daggers, repeating this up to three times.
- Wounding Shots, Passive: Marius's attacks cause bleed accumulation.
Giatta
Giatta is the third Companion you'll recruit, found later in the main quest in the Emerald Stair Region at the Fior settlement. She is an animancer, a practitioner of a controversial form of magic in the Living Lands.
Giatta plays a crucial role in unraveling the spiritual mysteries of Avowed's main quest. Her magic abilities primarily serve a support role in combat. Although she doesn't deal much damage herself, Giatta can heal, shield, and buff allies. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, powers Essence Generators to open new pathways and uncover hidden loot during exploration.
Giatta's upgradable abilities include:
- Purification, Active: Giatta releases a wave of energy that heals all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
- Barrier, Active: Giatta provides all allies with a shield granting temporary health for 20 seconds.
- Acceleration, Active: Giatta boosts the movement and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
- Reconstruction, Passive: Giatta's attacks heal all allies by a small amount.
Yatzli
Yatzli is the fourth and final Companion you can recruit, joining your party during a main quest in the Shatterscarp region within the city of Thirdborn, although you may encounter her earlier in the world.
Like Giatta, Yatzli wields magic, but she focuses on dealing damage. Her spells are potent, capable of devastating single targets and effective crowd control. Yatzli also uses her magic to clear obstacles, making her an invaluable asset for exploring the Living Lands.
Yatzli's upgradable abilities are:
- Essence Explosion, Active: Yatzli unleashes an arcane blast that explodes on contact, releasing a burst of Essence and causing explosive damage.
- Minoletta’s Missile Battery, Active: Yatzli fires a volley of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
- Arduos Delay of Motion, Active: Yatzli manipulates arcane energy to slow an enemy for 10 seconds.
- Blast, Passive: Yatzli's attacks create a small area of effect upon hitting an enemy.
And that is every recruitable Companion in Avowed.
