Hashino, when discussing Atlus' future plans, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding the possibility of Metaphor: ReFantazio becoming a franchise, Hashino confirmed there are no concrete plans for a sequel. His current focus is on completing the game successfully. He revealed that the project was originally conceived as the third major JRPG series following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming for it to become a flagship title for Atlus.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, Atlus is already developing its next project. An anime adaptation of Metaphor: ReFantazio is also under consideration. The game itself has been a remarkable success for Atlus, boasting a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961—significantly outperforming Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
