Nintendo Switch 2: New Charger Needed?
Rumors suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may require a more powerful charger than its predecessor. While the console's design appears similar to the original Switch, based on recent leaks, a significant difference might lie in its power requirements. Nintendo is expected to officially unveil the Switch 2 by March 2025.
Leaked images circulating online hint at a design closely resembling the original Switch, with potential upgrades. Pictures of magnetic Joy-Con controllers have further fueled speculation about the console's tablet mode functionality.
However, a recent leak from journalist Laura Kate Dale, citing a reliable source, points to a crucial detail: the Switch 2's charging dock and its accompanying 60W power cable. This suggests the original Switch's charger may be insufficient for optimal charging, potentially resulting in slower charging times. While using the older cable might be possible, a 60W charger is recommended for efficient performance.
Original Switch Charger Compatibility Uncertain
Numerous rumors surround the Switch 2, including details about developer kits and potential game titles, such as a new Mario Kart installment and Monolith Soft's Project X Zone. Speculation regarding the console's graphical capabilities places it potentially on par with, or slightly below, the PlayStation 4 Pro.
Although the Switch 2 will include its own charging cable, the incompatibility with the original Switch's charger is a noteworthy detail. Gamers who might lose their Switch 2 charger should be aware that the older cable may not provide optimal charging, assuming the rumor proves accurate.
