The first season of The Last of Us was a major success for HBO, earning widespread acclaim and numerous awards. Created by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl fame and Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann, the series won multiple Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and received five Primetime Emmy nominations, including nods for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, Outstanding Director, and Outstanding Writing.
Due to the success of the first season, HBO is eager to continue the saga, with Francesca Orsi hinting that the show is planned to run for a total of four seasons. This implies that Season 2 will not cover the entirety of The Last of Us Part II.
