The Last of Us has seen tremendous success with its television adaptation, prompting early confirmation of a Season 3 even before Season 2 began. But what about Season 4? According to showrunner Craig Mazin, a fourth season may not just be possible—it could be necessary.
In an interview with Collider, Mazin explained that trying to wrap up the entire story drawn from the two original Naughty Dog-developed video games within just three seasons would make Season 3 "take forever." While there's a "decent chance" that Season 3 will be longer than its predecessor, he noted that "there’s no way to complete this narrative in a third season."
Mazin went on to express optimism about continuing the series: "Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth. That’s the most likely outcome."
