On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to reveal that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this announcement was a captivating new trailer that showcased thrilling gameplay footage.
Sonic Rumble marks the first multiplayer party game in the Sonic series, allowing up to 32 players to compete in diverse levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the experience as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and hazardous arenas!"
As a free-to-play title, there were initial concerns about potential pay-to-win elements. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these worries during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He clarified, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to purchase exactly what you want for a small, fixed price, steering clear of a gacha system that relies on probability for item acquisition."
