Sony Has Good News and Bad News on PlayStation 5 Themes

Author : Caleb Feb 19,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes are leaving the PlayStation Store on January 31, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return is planned for the coming months, bringing welcome relief to nostalgic PS5 owners.

In a recent tweet, Sony expressed gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive reception to these themes, stating that they're currently working to re-introduce these designs.

Despite this good news, Sony also announced that there are currently no plans to release additional console themes in the future. This announcement has understandably disappointed many fans, as PS5 theme customization has been a noticeably absent feature.

The temporary themes offered a nostalgic trip down memory lane, allowing PS5 users to customize their home screen and menus with iconic imagery and sound effects from past PlayStation consoles. Each theme recreated the visual style of its respective console generation, including the PSOne's console image, PS2's menu design, PS3's wave background, and PS4's similar wave patterns, all complemented by their signature audio cues. These themes were released in celebration of PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024.
