Next month, PlayStation Plus subscribers will see the removal of 22 games from their library, including notable titles like Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of Sony's first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. This change will take effect on May 20, 2025.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation consoles, offering a range of benefits such as free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer access, and exclusive member discounts. Additionally, Extra and Premium members have access to a catalog of hundreds of current and classic games.
According to Push Square, the upcoming removal of these 22 games from the PS Plus Premium library includes two significant first-party PS3 titles, both of which will no longer be available after May 20.

The departure of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 is particularly noteworthy because these games are no longer available for purchase on the PS Store. This makes the PS Plus Premium streaming service the last resort for playing them on modern consoles, unless players still own these games and a functional PS3. Both titles were added to the library at the end of 2024, making their removal less than a year later quite surprising.
Developed by Insomniac Games, the Resistance series is a set of alternate history first-person shooters that followed the studio's success with the Ratchet and Clank series. Three Resistance games were released for the PS3 before Insomniac shifted focus to other projects like Marvel’s Spider-Man and new Ratchet and Clank titles.
While it's rare for Sony to remove its first-party titles from the service, precedents exist, such as the unexpected removal of both Horizon games — Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon: Forbidden West — in August 2024. Unlike the Horizon games, which remained purchasable after their removal, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be accessible on modern consoles after their departure from PS Plus.
Interestingly, Resistance 3 and Resistance: Retribution will continue to be available on the service. Additionally, the more recent first-party PS4 title InFamous: Second Son is also set to leave PS Plus.
Insomniac's Resistance series has been on hiatus for some time. Earlier this year, Insomniac founder and outgoing president Ted Price shared that there was a significant effort to develop Resistance 4, but the project did not move forward. The Resistance series, much like Guerrilla Games' Killzone series, appears to have been put on the back burner.
