While exploring The Zone in *Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl*, players will encounter various NPCs that can lead to engaging side quests, such as the "For Science!" mission. This quest begins when Skif meets Yaryk Mongoose, who then tasks players with activating a second measuring device located atop a Silo. Although this quest is relatively short, completing it rewards players with a valuable Malachite pass, granting access to the STC Malachite facilities.
How to Start "For Science!" Side Quest in Stalker 2
To initiate the "For Science!" side quest, players must head to the Central Elevator location within the Chemical Plant region to meet Yaryk Mongoose. As you approach, you'll hear Mongoose calling Skif via radio, urging him to come up the building for a meeting.
Upon entering the Central Elevator, take a left past the conveyor belts and ascend the rusted stairs. Mongoose is waiting on the first floor; you can vault over the railing to enter his room and start the conversation. He'll point out a measuring device near him and explain the need to activate another one on top of a silo. Accepting this task will officially start the "For Science!" side mission in *Stalker 2*.
Reaching the Top of the Silo During "For Science!" Side Quest
After speaking with Mongoose, exit the room and climb the stairs to the top of the building. Be prepared to encounter a pack of rodents; dispatch them and proceed to a room with broken windows on both sides. Climb out of a window and descend the ladder on the exterior walkway.
Next, jump onto the connecting walkway leading to the Silos. Equip your bolt to safely navigate past electro anomalies. Continue left atop the silo until you reach and activate the second measuring device. Upon activation, be alert as a pack of Bloodsuckers will rush into the compound. You can choose to eliminate them or evade them to return to Yaryk Mongoose.
Confront Yaryk Mongoose About the Bloodsucker Pack
When you reach Mongoose, he'll explain the unintended consequences of the experiment. Players face a decision: either kill Mongoose for endangering Skif's life or accept the reward and leave. There are no significant consequences to this choice, so feel free to choose based on your preference. If you decide to take Mongoose down, you can loot the Malachite pass from his body.
However, it's advisable to listen to Mongoose's explanation and opt for the non-hostile approach. This choice will grant you the Malachite Pass along with additional coupons. With the pass in hand, you're now able to enter the STC Malachite base, provided you don't already have access through a main mission.
