Work on Steam FPS Game Paused Because Dev is Going to Prison for 3 Years

Fortune's Run, a Steam FPS game, faces an indefinite delay due to its creator's three-year prison sentence. This unique circumstance, unlike typical development halts caused by financial or technical issues, leaves the game in early access limbo.

Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive reception on Steam, lauded for its nostalgic art style and engaging gameplay. However, all updates are now suspended until the developer, Dizzie, completes their sentence. While the specific crime remains undisclosed, Dizzie acknowledged past violent behavior. This situation, though unusual in game development, highlights the unpredictable nature of the industry.

Initially, Fortune's Run had a second team member, but their departure following a surgery and disinterest in game development left Dizzie as the sole developer. Development will cease entirely starting February 2025, pushing back the projected 2026 early access release date. While lengthy early access periods are common for indie games (as evidenced by Satisfactory's five-year journey), a three-year delay is significant.

Dizzie assures fans the game's completion is still intended upon release from prison. The current early access build remains playable, and players can explore other Steam FPS titles in the interim. The game's future, however, remains uncertain.
