The series pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.

DC group editor Paul Kaminski compared the series to Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness's Superman/Batman, highlighting its grand-scale adventures while introducing a massive new Kryptonite deposit. He envisions a world where even petty crimes pose extreme danger due to readily available Kryptonite weapons. This creates unprecedented challenges for Superman and his allies. Kaminski further contrasts this with the Justice League Unlimited series, emphasizing the shift from unlimited heroes to unlimited, Kryptonite-empowered villains.
A 10-page prelude story in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 (May 3, 2025) precedes the main series launch of Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, 2025, just before James Gunn's Superman film release on July 11.
