SVC Chaos Brings Modern Enhancements on New Platforms

The announcement came during the world's largest arcade tournament, EVO 2024, where SNK electrified the audience with the news of SVC Chaos's return. A subsequent post on Twitter (X) confirmed the game's availability on the mentioned platforms. With an impressive roster of 36 characters from both SNK and Capcom, players can dive into battles featuring favorites like Terry and Mai from Fatal Fury, Mars People from Metal Slug, and Tessa from Red Earth, alongside Capcom legends such as Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter.

The re-released version of SVC Chaos includes significant updates designed to enhance the gaming experience. According to the game's Steam page, it now features brand-new rollback netcode for smoother online play, various tournament modes such as single elimination, double elimination, and round-robin formats, a hitbox viewer for detailed character analysis, and a gallery mode showcasing 89 pieces of artwork ranging from key art to character portraits.

SVC Chaos’s Journey From Arcade Hit to Modern Re-Release

The re-emergence of SVC Chaos is a landmark event in the world of crossover fighting games, especially given its original release back in 2003. The game's absence from the market for over two decades was due to SNK's financial struggles, including bankruptcy and acquisition by Aruze, a Pachinko company. These challenges, combined with difficulties transitioning from arcade to home consoles, contributed to the series' long hiatus.

Despite these obstacles, the passionate fanbase remained loyal to SVC Chaos, captivated by its unique character lineup and fast-paced gameplay. The re-release not only celebrates the game's legacy but also acknowledges the enduring affection fans have for it. By bringing SVC Chaos to modern platforms, SNK ensures that a new generation can experience the thrilling battles between SNK and Capcom legends.

Capcom’s Vision for Crossover Fighting Games

In an exclusive interview with Dexerto, Shuhei Matsumoto, producer of Street Fighter 6 and the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, discussed Capcom's future aspirations for crossover fighting games. Matsumoto revealed the team's interest in developing a new Marvel vs Capcom game or a new Capcom-based SNK game, although he stressed that such projects would require substantial time and effort.

Matsumoto highlighted Capcom's current focus on reintroducing legacy games to new audiences on modern platforms. He stated, What we can do now is at least reintroduce these past legacy games to a new audience, to people who may not have had the opportunity to play them on modern platforms. This approach aims to familiarize players with classic series, setting the stage for potential future collaborations.

Regarding past Capcom-developed Marvel titles, Matsumoto mentioned ongoing discussions with Marvel that have finally aligned, allowing these games to be re-released. The enthusiasm from both the community and developers, especially evident during events like EVO, has played a significant role in bringing these legacy games back to life on contemporary platforms.
