Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in "Madame Web," is set to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the video game "Split Fiction." The film, directed by Jon M. Chu of "Wicked" fame, will be penned by the acclaimed screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are behind "Deadpool & Wolverine." The project is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the studio responsible for the successful Sonic films, and is currently being shopped around to Hollywood studios, anticipating a competitive bidding war.
The role Sweeney will take on in "Split Fiction" remains undecided between the characters Zoe or Mio. The game, developed by Hazelight and led by designer Josef Fares, has seen remarkable success since its launch in March, selling over 2 million copies within its first week and being selected as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review praised "Split Fiction" as an "expertly crafted co-op adventure" that offers a dynamic and engaging experience, earning a score of 9/10.
Hazelight's success extends beyond "Split Fiction," with their other hit game, "It Takes Two," also slated for a movie adaptation, potentially starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Amid the thriving market for video game adaptations, Hollywood's interest in these projects is palpable, though the outcome of such deals remains uncertain.
Story Kitchen is not stopping at "Split Fiction"; it has also announced adaptations for other games, including Square Enix's "Just Cause," "Dredge: The Movie," "Kingmakers," "Sleeping Dogs," and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next gaming project, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next.
