Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999
TennoCon 2024 delivered a knockout punch with the announcement of Warframe: 1999, a massive update promising a thrilling trip back to the year 1999. Get ready for a retro-futuristic adventure unlike any other.
Kicking things off is a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," arriving in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved Warframe character, this quest sets the stage for the main event and introduces Sevatgoth Prime and their unique weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999 Earth, where a deadly Y2K virus threatens global catastrophe. The setting? Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot. Navigate this retro-dystopia using the new Atomicyles, futuristic vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Commanding these Atomicyles are the Hex, a team of six unique characters.
Each member of the Hex pilots a Protoframe, showcasing the human beneath the Warframe. Arthur, leading the charge with Excalibur, is joined by allies such as Aoi (wielding Mag) and Quincy (sporting the brand-new CYTE-09 Warframe, which will also appear in the Origin System).
The Hex boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them through in-game instant messaging—a truly 1999 touch!
Adding to the 90s nostalgia, players will face off against On-lyne, a fiendish 90s boy band infected by Technocyte Coda and led by the charismatic Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectious tunes can be enjoyed on major streaming platforms.
A significant upgrade to Warframe's fashion system is also part of this update. Players can now equip two fashion frame loadouts and switch between them seamlessly. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System, complete with fully voiced dialogue.
Beyond Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE to produce an anime short film based on the update, launching later this year. New Heirloom skins are also available, starting with Ember's today, followed by Rhino's in early 2025.
With Warframe: 1999's Winter 2024 release date fast approaching, now is the perfect time to jump into the action. Download Warframe from the App Store today!
