Following its global reveal during the recent State of Play, Tides of Annihilation unveils an extended gameplay trailer, offering a more in-depth look at its action-packed world. This upcoming action title promises a thrilling experience.
Exploring a Post-Apocalyptic London
First showcased at last week's PlayStation State of Play, the hack-and-slash action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation generated significant buzz with its newly released extended gameplay trailer.
The trailer presents early gameplay featuring Gwendolyn and her shape-shifting companion, Niniane, navigating the ruins of a ravaged, otherworldly London, the aftermath of an Outworld invasion. Their journey through the decaying city is fraught with perilous encounters. Gwendolyn's ability to summon a squad of over ten legendary knights, inspired by King Arthur's Round Table, is also revealed.
After overcoming obstacles and traversing a magical portal, the duo confronts Mordred, a formidable boss with conflicting objectives, setting the stage for an epic clash. The boss fight showcases the game's dynamic combat system, underscored by a haunting choral score.
According to producer Kun Fu on the PlayStation Blog, the combat system offers "intuitive co-op combat within a single-player experience." Players can summon two spectral knights at a time, each with unique combat roles, requiring strategic deployment. "The interplay between Gwendolyn and the knights creates a dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply engaging combat experience. It's a system our team (veterans from leading game studios) fell in love with during internal playtests."
Echoes of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta
Online viewers have lauded the trailer's art direction, stylistic choices, fluid combat, and overall gameplay, drawing comparisons to classic titles like Devil May Cry (DMC) and Bayonetta, as well as more recent hits such as Elden Ring, NieR: Automata, Stellar Blade, and Final Fantasy 16. The trailer has ignited considerable anticipation, with many expressing excitement and predicting strong sales upon release.
Tides of Annihilation, the debut title from Chengdu-based Eclipse Glow Games, blends Arthurian legend with an alternate reality London. Players assume the role of Gwendolyn, a survivor in a post-apocalyptic world. While a precise release date is yet to be announced, the game is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
