Dragon Quest 12 continues to be a work in progress, with series creator Yuji Horii reassuring fans that information will be shared gradually. Speaking on a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, as reported by Automaton, Horii emphasized that the development team at Square Enix is diligently working on the game. This marks the first update since May 2024, when Horii had previously addressed the passing of key contributors Akira Toriyama, the character designer, and Koichi Sugiyama, the composer. Additionally, Yu Miyake, the series' lead producer, had stepped down to head Square Enix's mobile game division.
Amidst concerns of potential cancellation due to restructuring at Square Enix and a dearth of updates, Horii's recent comments offer reassurance that Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development.

Announced during the 35th anniversary celebration of the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest 12 is poised to be the first mainline entry since Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age, which was released in 2017. In other news, Square Enix reported that the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake has exceeded sales expectations, selling over 2 million copies.
