Takaya Imamura, the creator of the eccentric Tingle character from the Legend of Zelda series, has revealed his top choice to portray Tingle in the upcoming live-action film adaptation! Find out who he envisions for the role.
Takaya Imamura's Ideal Tingle Casting Choice for the Zelda Movie
Forget Jason Momoa and Jack Black – the question isn't if Tingle will appear, but who will play him. Imamura recently shared his perfect casting choice with VGC.
"Masi Oka," he stated. "You know the TV series Heroes? The Japanese character who shouts 'yatta!' – I'd like him to do it."
Oka, famous for his role as Hiro Nakamura in Heroes, possesses the comedic timing and energetic enthusiasm ideally suited to Tingle's unique persona. His signature "yatta!" exclamation and poses even bear a striking resemblance to Tingle's iconic style. His diverse filmography, spanning action films like Bullet Train and The Meg to the acclaimed Hawaii Five-O, further showcases his versatility.
Whether director Wes Ball will heed Imamura's suggestion remains uncertain. However, Ball's description of the film as a "live-action Miyazaki" suggests a whimsical tone that could accommodate Tingle's outlandish character.
Announced in November 2023, the Legend of Zelda live-action movie, directed by Wes Ball and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, aims for a serious yet fulfilling cinematic experience. Ball himself expressed a desire to meet fan expectations in March 2024.
