This simple, non-field RPG challenges you to escape a cursed forest.
- Prologue -
You're the village's best hunter. News of a national hunting tournament near the royal capital reaches you, and you journey there. After attending the opening ceremony, you venture into the forest. Waking up after your first night camping, you discover something unsettling: your camp is deserted, the other hunters vanished. National guards oversee the tournament, yet there's no one in sight. You cautiously begin to explore, only to find yourself disoriented – you've seemingly returned to your starting point. Your usually reliable sense of direction fails you, highlighting the strange nature of the forest. Your efforts to stay calm are tested as you continue your journey.
- The Elven Curse -
Aided by a quarter-elf, you, the hunter, must escape the cursed forest. Gameplay is remarkably simple, using a maximum of three buttons at a time (excluding the main menu).
- Character Creation -
While character customization isn't directly available, you can reroll your stats as often as needed. Status increase rates upon leveling up are only visible on this screen and aren't accessible during gameplay. This screen also serves as a return point. When you have fewer than two "talismans," and your character's life force reaches zero, it's game over.
- Foria, the Peddler Quarter-Elf -
A boy (?), who calls himself a quarter-elf, encounters you in the forest. Despite his youthful appearance, he claims to be older than you. He offers no direct assistance but secretly aids your escape using the forest's ancient spirits.
- Game World and Presentation -
The prologue unfolds like a picture story, with Foria's dialogue maintaining a cheerful tone. The game world is conveyed through understated, evocative language.
- Exploration Mode -
Progress through the forest by exploring unexplored areas. The success of each exploration attempt depends on the "fog depth" of the area, influenced by your character's stats. If your life force is depleted, use poison or rare "talismans" to recover, or return to Foria.
- Beast Encounters and Hunter Battles -
Fierce creatures roam the forest, including not only wolves and wild dogs, but surprisingly, even frogs and rabbits. Defeating them yields hides for trading with Foria. Unlike typical RPGs, combat doesn't offer experience points; escaping the forest is the goal. All battles are avoidable (though this requires either luck or skillful play). As a hunter, you use a bow and arrow. Maintaining distance allows you to attack without counterattack. Closing the distance, however, leads to a one-sided attack. You can then choose to retreat (with uncertain success) or use a "flash" ball provided by Foria for a guaranteed escape. While far from the beast, you can also use wound medicine to restore life force.
- Cloak and Layering System -
Create a cloak using branches, resin, and leather. This cloak can be layered up to three times, improving your abilities. In rare instances, it can restore your life force. Note that the top layer can be damaged and eventually destroyed. The bow and arrow remain your only weapon; there's no other equipment variation.
- Game Features -
This isn't just a game; it's an experience. It involves skill selection from random options, testing reflexes, strategy, and luck. It also features material collection, synthesis, and alchemy. It allows you to thoroughly prepare before progressing. It's a relaxing game that allows for progress even with casual play.
- Autosave -
The game autosaves, but not consistently (e.g., not during battles). For reliable saving, close the app from the base menu.
