Ready to conquer the Chatacabra, the long-tongued menace of *Monster Hunter Wilds*? This early-game boss is a great training ground, so let's master both killing and capturing it.
How to Defeat the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder
Resistances: None
Immunities: Sonic Bomb
The Chatacabra, a large frog-like monster, primarily uses close-range tongue attacks. It may also rush you from a distance. While any weapon works, its small size makes weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade slightly less effective due to their multi-hit attacks being more efficient against larger targets.
Most attacks involve its tongue, making the front a dangerous position. Besides its licking attack, it slams its front limbs into the ground after a noticeable rearing motion. The only significant threat when not directly in front is a rearward tongue sweep after raising its head.
The optimal strategy is to stay to the sides, dodging or blocking its slam attack. Exploiting its elemental weaknesses with Ice or Thunder weapons will significantly speed up the fight.
How to Capture the Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster capture in Monster Hunter Wilds is consistent, with the Chatacabra's lack of flight simplifying things. You'll need a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap, and two Tranquilizer Bombs. However, carrying one of each trap and eight Tranq Bombs is recommended for safety.
Battle the Chatacabra until its mini-map icon displays a skull, indicating its final retreat. Follow it, set your trap, and lure it inside. Once trapped, use two Tranq Bombs to capture it.
