Tentacle Tactics
Nu Udra's massive tentacles present a formidable challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds. Their wide reach makes dodging difficult, but they also offer a prime target for melee weapons. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but proceed with caution—these limbs pack a powerful punch.
Target the Maw
Ranged weapon users have more options, but the mouth remains the optimal target. Its 4-star weakness makes it a high-priority attack point, though locating it amidst Nu Udra's inky black hide requires keen observation. The head, while only offering a 3-star weakness to ammo, remains a viable target for blunt and cut damage.
Harness the Power of Watermoss
Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity, utilizing fire attacks alongside its powerful limbs. It even ignites itself periodically, inflicting the dangerous Fireblight debuff. Counter this by strategically deploying Watermoss to create a safe attacking window.
Embrace Fire Resistance
For increased survivability, equip fire-resistant gear. The Quematrice armor set, boasting the Fire Resistance skill, is highly recommended. Supplement this with decorations that reduce elemental damage, such as the Fire Res Jewel or the Stream Jewel (for enhanced Water Attack).
Evade the Grasp
Nu Udra's grab attack is particularly perilous. If caught within its tentacles, it unleashes a fiery blast. React swiftly by using a knife to break free or utilize your Slinger to exploit a weak point during the brief pause before the attack.

Capturing the Black Flame

To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster to near-death (indicated by a skull icon next to its health bar). Lure it into the trap using meat or strategically position yourself behind it while it's targeting you. Once trapped, quickly administer a Tranquilizer—you have approximately five seconds before it breaks free.
Mastering the hunt for Nu Udra requires skill and strategy. Don't hesitate to utilize multiplayer for a more manageable challenge.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
