EA Sports FC 25 has faced significant backlash, prompting a developer response. Criticisms extend beyond monetization practices to encompass technical issues and gameplay mechanics. A "Gameplay Refresh Update" addressing over 50 areas has been released.
Key improvements include revised core gameplay systems (assists, shots, goalkeeping, and defending), smoother attacking maneuvers, reduced AI interceptions and reverse tackles, and a decrease in the effectiveness of crossing passes. Player support has been enhanced for players in familiar positions, and offside detection for AI-controlled players has been improved. Minor accuracy boosts have been applied to long-range shots.
The initial reception was overwhelmingly negative, with only 36% of 474 player reviews positive upon release. Common complaints included perceived corporate greed, numerous bugs and crashes, and PlayStation controller compatibility problems. Furthermore, the game's anti-cheat measures render it incompatible with the Steam Deck.
