Final Fantasy IX Marks Quarter-Century Milestone
Special Anniversary Site Goes Live

Square Enix has unveiled an official anniversary website detailing commemorative plans for Final Fantasy IX's 25th year. The site confirms preparation of various anniversary projects including merchandise and collaborations.
The anniversary collection features premium FFIX items such as character statues, plush toys, vinyl records, soundtrack CDs, and illustrated storybooks. More announcements are expected throughout the celebration period.
Originally launching July 7, 2000 for PlayStation, FFIX has sold over 8.9 million copies globally. It received a remastered edition for mobile devices in 2016, followed by PC and modern console releases through 2019.
Potential FFIX Remake Revival and Silent Anime Project

The anniversary launch has reignited speculation about a potential FFIX remake. Given the commercial success of Final Fantasy VII's remake series, many fans believe FFIX could receive similar treatment. The game ranked fourth in NHK's 2019 poll of Japan's favorite Final Fantasy titles.
An announced but dormant FFIX anime adaptation remains another point of interest. Revealed in 2021 as "Final Fantasy IX: The Black Mages' Legacy," the series would have explored a post-game narrative centered on Vivi's descendants. Production stalled following financial troubles at Cyber Group Studios, though multiple buyers now show interest in reviving the project.
