We already knew that Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 Enhanced edition was coming to PS5, and now we have a confirmed release date: August 12.
Ninja Theory's acclaimed title will launch in two versions: a standard edition priced at $49.99, featuring the base Hellblade 2 game alongside all enhancements from the Enhanced update, and a deluxe edition for $69.99. The deluxe package also includes an upgraded PlayStation 5 version of Hellblade 1, plus the Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Official Soundtrack, creating the ultimate starting point for Senua's haunting story.
Existing owners of the PlayStation 4 version of Hellblade 1 will receive a complimentary upgrade to the PS5 version.
It's worth noting that the Enhanced edition and all additional content coming to PS5 will also be available as a free update for PC and Xbox Series X/S. This includes Performance Mode, Dark Rot Mode – introducing additional gameplay challenges – an upgraded Photo Mode, and developer commentary providing insights into the creative vision behind Senua's Saga. Below is a detailed breakdown of each new feature:
Performance Mode– While the original release targeted 30fps for a cinematic, atmospheric experience, the Enhanced update introduces a Performance Mode optimized for 60fps. PC players will also benefit from a new "Very High" graphics preset for superior visual quality based on their hardware capabilities.
Dark Rot Mode– The menacing Dark Rot from Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice makes a return, offering players an optional hardcore challenge. Each failure causes the rot to spread further, and should it reach Senua's head, the game ends and all progress is permanently lost.
Enhanced Photo Mode– The updated Photo Mode features an expanded toolkit, including a new "Motion" tab designed for capturing dynamic, cinematic-style video sequences.
Developer Commentary– For those fascinated by the artistry and design choices in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, the Enhanced update offers over four hours of developer commentary from various team members involved in the game's creation.
Our review awarded Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 an impressive 8/10, praising it as "another Viking-worthy feast for the senses that meets the high bar set by its predecessor, even if it never truly surpasses it."
