Tidepool Games has released an exciting new fast-paced pixel art 'snakelike' roguelike for Android, dubbed MageTrain. If you're familiar with Nimble Quest, you'll notice a striking resemblance, as MageTrain draws heavy inspiration from it.
What’s MageTrain Like?
MageTrain masterfully blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a unique gaming experience. In this game, you control a line of heroes that trail behind you, much like a snake, each automatically attacking as you navigate through an arena. Your role is to strategically manage the positioning of your heroes, deciding who leads and who supports, as their abilities vary based on their placement within the train.
At launch, MageTrain features nine diverse heroes, one of whom uniquely throws birds. Each hero brings different skills to the table, depending on their position in the lineup. As you progress, you'll explore eight distinct dungeons, battle against 28 types of enemies, and acquire 30 skills to enhance your team's capabilities. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to bolster your chances of survival.
Thanks to its roguelike nature, every run in MageTrain is unique. You'll navigate branching paths, make crucial upgrade decisions, and strive to last as long as possible. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels and no option to save your progress. A single misstep, whether it's crashing into an obstacle or being overrun by enemies, means starting over from scratch.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The charm of MageTrain lies in the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even when facing defeat. You'll learn to balance when to play defensively, when to launch an all-out attack, and when to simply survive for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available on Android and is free to play. Dive into the action by downloading it from the Google Play Store.
