Marvel Snap, developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance subsidiary Nuverse, faced an unexpected ban in certain regions. This resulted in the game's removal from iOS and Android app stores on January 18, 2025, alongside other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8. While many users experienced frustrating authorization problems, the game remains accessible on Steam for PC players.
Second Dinner expressed surprise and disappointment at the sudden ban, assuring players via an official Platform X statement: “Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress.” The lack of prior warning angered many players who continued making in-app purchases before the lockout.
Interestingly, the ban didn't affect all ByteDance applications. Games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain operational.
Recent additions to the game, such as the Moonstone card, have generated significant discussion. Moonstone, a 4/6 cost Ongoing card, offers a powerful meta-shifting potential. Her ability to copy the Ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in her lane creates a strong advantage, particularly given the existing number of low-cost Ongoing cards like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent. Unlike many inexpensive Ongoing cards that primarily focus on power generation, Moonstone rapidly gains power due to her ability to acquire these effects at no additional cost.
