CES 2025: Genki's Switch 2 Replica Hints at Console's Design and Accessory Plans

New images circulating from CES 2025 purportedly depict a highly accurate physical replica of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, offering a substantial glimpse at the console's design. While Nintendo remains officially silent, the steady stream of leaks and rumors surrounding the Switch 2 continues unabated. This latest development comes courtesy of accessory maker Genki, who reportedly showcased the replica behind closed doors.

Genki's replica, claimed to match the Switch 2's exact dimensions, allows for a tangible understanding of the console's size and feel. This physical representation adds weight to previous design leaks and offers a more concrete picture than previous reports.

A Larger Console with Side-Detaching Joy-Cons?

Photos released by Netzwelt suggest a noticeably larger Switch 2 compared to its predecessor, boasting a screen size rivaling the Lenovo Legion Go. The Joy-Cons appear to detach via a sideways pull, potentially confirming earlier rumors of magnetic attachment. However, speculation exists regarding a supplementary mechanical locking mechanism to prevent accidental detachment. An additional, unlabeled button is also visible on the right Joy-Con.

Genki's Accessory Strategy

Genki's motivation behind creating this replica is clear: to showcase upcoming Switch 2 accessories. The company plans to launch a total of eight accessories, including cases and dock peripherals, targeting early adoption and market positioning. Notably, Genki refrained from speculating on Nintendo's official release timeline for the Switch 2.

With the increasing credibility of these leaks, an official Nintendo announcement regarding the Switch 2 seems imminent. Anticipation is high amongst fans, developers, and publishers alike, given the current Switch's age and market saturation.
