Sony is introducing an exciting new update for PlayStation Portal users engaged with its Cloud Streaming Beta, enhancing the remote play system's cloud capabilities. This update, scheduled for release later today, brings several user experience and functionality improvements to the platform.
One of the standout features of this update is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their game library by Name, Release Date, or based on which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus, making it easier to navigate and find their next game to play.
Another significant addition is the option to capture gameplay during a Cloud Streaming session. Users can access the familiar create menu to take screenshots or record video clips, with Sony supporting video resolutions up to 1920x1080 and durations of up to three minutes, as detailed in the PlayStation blog.
Furthermore, gameplay will now pause automatically when users open the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode via the power button, or if a system error message appears. It's worth noting that the pause in rest mode is limited to 15 seconds; if the Portal stays in rest mode longer, the cloud streaming session will disconnect. This pause feature, however, is not available during online multiplayer sessions.Other enhancements include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for user inactivity, and new tools for user feedback. Sony has expressed its commitment to continually refine and expand the feature set based on user input.
Currently, the Cloud Streaming Beta is exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, enabling them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog directly on the PS Portal. A previous update transformed the Portal into a more independent cloud streaming device, and Sony appears dedicated to further developing this capability over time.
As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integrated into the gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to observe how Sony's service evolves in conjunction with the PlayStation Portal. One of the immediate benefits is the ability to capture numerous screenshots during streaming sessions, enhancing the user experience on the Portal.
