R.E.P.O Console Release Confirmed

R.E.P.O., the co-op horror game that launched in February, has captured the attention of over 200,000 PC players. However, fans eager to know if R.E.P.O. will make its way to consoles are in for a wait. Currently, R.E.P.O. is exclusively available on PC, and there's no confirmation from its developer, semiwork, about a console release.

Is R.E.P.O. Coming to Consoles?

As it stands, R.E.P.O. is not slated for a console release and may remain a PC-only game indefinitely. The small team at semiwork is currently focused on perfecting the game's multiplayer experience. They are grappling with significant challenges, particularly around enhancing the multiplayer mechanics without making the game susceptible to cheats.

"The main issue with matchmaking lobbies is hackers. But the issue with an anti-cheat system is that you’re ruining the experience for everyone who has made mods, because mods don’t work with an anti-cheat system. And we don’t want that," the developer explained in an interview with PCGamer. This issue needs resolution before any consideration of a console port could even begin.

While other PC-only games like Mouthwashing have made the transition to consoles, it's worth noting that Mouthwashing is a single-player game, which simplifies the porting process. Similarly themed games like Lethal Company and Content Warning, which involve sneaking past monsters, have also stayed PC-exclusive. Last year, the developers of Content Warning hinted at a possible console release but cited technical difficulties as a barrier. Since then, there have been no further updates on a console version.

In conclusion, R.E.P.O.'s developer has not shown any interest in bringing the game to consoles and is instead concentrating on improving the multiplayer aspects for the PC version.
