Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles will feature the surprising addition of Jar Jar Binks as a playable character. This revelation, accompanied by a new gameplay trailer, showcases Binks wielding a staff and employing his characteristically chaotic fighting style.
The 2000 original featured a roster of iconic characters, and this updated version aims to capitalize on nostalgia while adding fresh content. Beyond lightsaber color customization and cheat code support, a significant expansion to the playable character list is underway. Jar Jar Binks is the latest in a series of announcements, with nine other new characters already revealed, and more promised.
The trailer highlights Binks' unique gameplay, dispelling any hopes (however unrealistic) of a Darth Jar Jar-esque red lightsaber wielding character. Instead, he utilizes a large staff and his signature boisterous voice lines. He'll be playable upon the game's January 23rd launch, which is available for pre-order now.
Newly Revealed Playable Characters:
- Jar Jar Binks
- Rodian
- Flame Droid
- Gungan Guard
- Destroyer Droid
- Ishi Tib
- Rifle Droid
- Staff Tusken Raider
- Weequay
- Mercenary
Aspyr's commitment to expanding the roster is evident, with a diverse range of additions including droids, various alien species, and even a Staff Tusken Raider. The inclusion of multiple Gungans further demonstrates the breadth of this update.
With the release date fast approaching, anticipation is high. Aspyr's past experience remastering classic Star Wars titles, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, offers hope that Jedi Power Battles will receive the same level of care and attention to detail, delivering a truly satisfying experience for fans.
