Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's inaugural foray into the iconic franchise, is set to close its doors just over a year after its debut on iOS and Android. Launched in June 2024, the game quickly captured attention with its unique blend of game show flair and innovative takes on Star Wars archetypes.
However, the game will officially shutter on October 1st of this year. Before that, a final content update is scheduled to go live on April 15th. In response to the shutdown announcement, Zynga has made in-game currency eligible for refunds and plans to rerun certain seasonal events, extending the third season.
Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of the final hunter, Tuya, will still have the chance to experience this character in multiplayer. Tuya will be introduced in the final content update and will be available to play for free from the start.
Story's Over
The announcement of Star Wars: Hunters' closure came as a surprise, with no prior signs of the game underperforming. Given Zynga's robust standing in the industry, it's likely that external factors, such as the oversaturation of the pseudo-hero shooter genre and a shifting demographic of Star Wars fans, played a role in the decision to end the game.
