Nightdive Studios, renowned for their work on the System Shock franchise, including the 2013 remaster of System Shock 2 and the recent remake of the original game, initially planned a simultaneous launch with the System Shock remake. However, development delays led to a revised release schedule.
Their 2023 remake was exceptionally well-received, achieving a Metacritic score of 78/100, a user score of 7.6/10, and a remarkable 91% positive rating on Steam. With the System Shock 2 remaster on the near horizon, the wait is almost over for fans.
