Eclipse Glow Games, in a recent Wccftech interview, revealed the inspiration behind Tides of Annihilation's Arthurian setting and London backdrop. The game's Western focus, they explained, stemmed from Tencent's strategic direction. While Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, Tides of Annihilation was designed with a Western audience in mind, leading to the adoption of Arthurian legends. The core concept, centered around knights, evolved into the iconic King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
Arthurian Knights and a Post-Apocalyptic London
Set in a post-apocalyptic London ravaged by an Outworld invasion, Tides of Annihilation follows Gwendolyn, seemingly the last human survivor. This alternate modern setting blends seamlessly with fantasy elements directly inspired by Arthurian myths.
Devil May Cry-Inspired Combat and Challenging Bosses
The game's combat, reminiscent of Devil May Cry, offers adjustable difficulty levels, catering to both seasoned action-game players and newcomers. Players can customize their combat style with four weapons and over ten Knights as allies. Gwendolyn's ability to command these legendary figures adds a unique dimension to the gameplay. With over 30 bosses boasting unique abilities, players can anticipate intense and challenging encounters.
Future Anthology Potential
Eclipse Glow Games hinted at the possibility of expanding the franchise into an anthology, featuring diverse settings, mythologies, and protagonists. The Outworld invasion concept would remain a central element, unifying the potential future titles. The success of Tides of Annihilation will be crucial in determining the future of this ambitious project.
Currently in beta, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will embark on Gwendolyn's journey, battling fate and saving both London and the intertwined fantasy realm of Avalon.
