Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed mode has nearly doubled the number of players engaging with the main quest in Zombies mode. While many players typically focus on survival within the Zombies mode, the introduction of Directed mode has shifted some attention towards the storyline.
Since its inception in World at War, the Zombies mode has included an intricate narrative that has grown significantly with each new installment, including Black Ops 6. Despite a decline in the overall player base since its launch, Zombies continues to attract a dedicated community. The mode's wave-based gameplay, where players fend off increasingly challenging enemies, often leads participants to prioritize enhancing their weapons and defenses over completing the story. However, with the introduction of Zombies Directed mode in the Season 1 update, there has been a notable shift in player engagement.
According to a recent Call of Duty blog post, Directed mode has boosted the main quest completion rate from 4% to 8.23%. This statistic is derived from an impressive 480 million hours of gameplay, with a small portion recorded since the November 14 release of Directed mode. Treyarch's goal with Directed mode was to encourage more players to participate in the main quest, and the doubling of completion rates is considered a success. Despite this progress, over 90% of players still do not complete the main quest, prompting ongoing efforts from Treyarch to further increase engagement.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode Made Major Improvements in One Key Area
The Season 1 update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 introduced Zombies' Directed mode alongside three new maps, two new game modes, and additional content. Directed mode provides a structured path for players, guiding them through the storyline. Over the years, the Zombies narrative has evolved to include complex elements such as interdimensional portals, zero-point energy, time travel, and teleportation, which can be overwhelming for new players. Directed mode helps simplify this journey for Black Ops 6 players, whereas earlier versions left players to navigate the story on their own.
With Directed mode now in place, more Zombies enthusiasts than ever before have the opportunity to complete the main quest. As Treyarch continues to refine and update Black Ops 6, future enhancements to Zombies and Directed mode could further improve the main quest completion rates, ensuring a richer experience for all players.
