Mastering the Haunted Mirror in Phasmophobia: A Guide to Ghostly Reconnaissance
In Phasmophobia, tackling the most elusive specters often requires employing risky yet rewarding Cursed Possessions. The Haunted Mirror stands out as a particularly useful, yet manageable, tool. This guide explains its function and usage.

The Haunted Mirror is arguably the safest Cursed Object in Phasmophobia, its benefits significantly outweighing the risks. Its functionality remains consistent across game updates, making its use highly recommended if encountered during an investigation.
The mirror's power lies in its ability to reveal the ghost's current preferred room. A panoramic view of the room is displayed in the mirror's reflection, allowing for quicker ghost location and equipment setup, minimizing dangerous encounters.
The Haunted Mirror typically appears hanging on a wall (as seen in 6 Tanglewood Drive) or resting on the floor in its designated spot. Cursed Objects always spawn in the same location on a map; the randomness lies in which object spawns.
To activate the mirror, pick it up and use the designated interaction button (mouse or controller) to hold it. The ghost's favored room will then be visible in the reflection. On Professional difficulty and above, remember that the ghost's location may change after a certain time.
However, prolonged gazing into the mirror depletes sanity. Holding it for the entire duration will shatter the mirror, triggering a Cursed Hunt at your location. Therefore, use it when your sanity is high and be sure to interpret the reflection correctly.
Understanding Cursed Possessions in Phasmophobia
Cursed Possessions (or "Cursed Objects") are unique, randomly spawning items in Phasmophobia. Their appearance can depend on the difficulty level and Challenge Mode participation.
Unlike standard equipment, which safely helps locate and identify ghosts, Cursed Objects offer shortcuts to manipulate the ghost, but at a considerable risk to your character's safety.
The risk associated with each Cursed Object varies, leaving the decision of whether to use them to the player(s). There's no penalty for ignoring them. Only one Cursed Possession spawns per contract (unless modified in Custom settings).
Seven Cursed Objects exist in the game:
- Summoning Circle
- Haunted Mirror
- Voodoo Doll
- Music Box
- Tarot Cards
- Ouija Board
- Monkey Paw
