Insomniac Games, the creative force behind the beloved Ratchet and Clank series, is exploring new avenues in game-to-screen adaptations. In a recent interview with Variety, co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider expressed enthusiasm for continuing this journey, especially after the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film. "We love Ratchet and Clank in particular," Schneider remarked, indicating a strong interest in revisiting this franchise on the big screen.
The 2016 Ratchet and Clank movie, while receiving mixed reviews, has not deterred Insomniac from considering further adaptations. With their acquisition by Sony in 2019, Insomniac is poised to leverage Sony's proven track record in turning video games into successful films and TV series. The acclaim surrounding Sony's adaptation of The Last of Us has further bolstered their confidence in this direction.
Sony’s Video Game Adaptations Lineup
Sony's prowess in adapting video games into compelling movies and TV shows is evident from recent successes like the Uncharted film in 2022 and the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series in 2023. The company continues to expand its portfolio with exciting upcoming projects announced at CES 2025. Fans can look forward to The Last of Us Season 2 on HBO in April 2025, an Until Dawn live-action film in April 2025, and the Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series on Crunchyroll in 2027. Additionally, a Helldivers feature film and a Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film are in development, though specific release dates remain undisclosed.
Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price Retires After 30 Years
Amidst these exciting developments, Insomniac Games also announced the retirement of their founder and long-time CEO, Ted Price, after an impressive 30-year tenure. Price, who spearheaded iconic franchises like "Spyro the Dragon," "Ratchet & Clank," and "Marvel’s Spider-Man," shared his decision to step down. "I actually made this decision last year. For me, after over 30 years of leading Insomniac, I felt it was simply time to step aside and let others pave the way for our team," Price explained.
Taking over the reins are three seasoned Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as co-Studio Heads. Price expressed confidence in this transition, stating, "I believe strongly that for us to continue our success, we need leaders at the top who are intimately familiar with how we do things, leaders who have helped build our culture and our processes, and who have earned people’s trust."
