After immersing himself in Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won felt invigorated and open to innovative projects. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared his thoughts on the Souls genre with Eurogamer, highlighting his long-standing admiration for FromSoftware's work, which is reflected in Lies of P's design.

Choi was impressed by Elden Ring's new direction, stating, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. It's clear that they're pushing boundaries with their imagination and vision, which motivated me to ensure that the Overture experience is as exceptional as possible."

He also hinted at future projects, saying, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

While Choi is a fan of FromSoftware, he emphasized that his inspiration comes from a diverse range of games. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of experiences and inspirations I draw from different games helps me shape my own Lies of P experience. It's a blend of diverse influences transformed into something unique for the fans of Lies of P."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi revealed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. The expansion is packed with new bosses and content that the developers initially wanted to include in the base game. He noted, "Overture is not a standalone piece from the base game; it's deeply interconnected. Developing this expansion was like completing the Lies of P experience, which was a significant challenge."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to the final days of Krat, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts that were omitted from the initial release due to production constraints. Choi likened Overture to a Director’s Cut, essentially completing the game's narrative arc.

He acknowledged the support from the community after the base game's release, saying, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once. The community's support pushed us to include everything we wanted in this expansion."

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 GDC, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC is not directly linked to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of the base game provided hints about the future of the Lies of P universe, Overture stands apart.

Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter video that a sequel to Lies of P is in the works, but remained tight-lipped about its connection to the final cutscene. He assured fans, "When we share news or media with you, you'll know we're ready to present it. Our focus on quality amidst all the pressure remains our priority. When we share content and news, we will be ready to do so."

Choi encouraged fans to replay the base game, noting that it contains many hints about what the DLC might offer. He also mentioned that he's been following fan theories online, some of which have come remarkably close to the truth.

Lies of P: Overture is slated for a Summer 2025 release, with no specific date announced yet. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest news on the game by checking out our related article below!
