NetEase's Marvel Rivals mistakenly bans innocent players. The developer, NetEase, issued an apology for incorrectly banning numerous players who were using compatibility layers like those for Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck. These players were flagged as cheaters, despite not using any cheating software. The bans have since been lifted.
The incident highlights the challenges of anti-cheat systems and their potential for false positives, particularly with compatibility layers like Proton, which is known to trigger some anti-cheat software. NetEase has urged players to report actual cheating behavior and has offered an appeal process for wrongful bans.
Separately, the game's community is requesting the implementation of character bans across all ranks. Currently, this feature is only available at Diamond rank and above. Players argue that expanding character bans to lower ranks would improve gameplay balance, provide learning opportunities for new players, and encourage more diverse team compositions. NetEase has yet to respond to this request.
