Konami made a major announcement during its Konami Press Start Live event: a remake of the original Silent Hill is on the way.
The Silent Hill remake is now officially in development at Bloober Team, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Silent Hill 2 remake.
Details are currently scarce, but the showcase did feature a short teaser with the iconic Silent Hill logo and its haunting soundtrack. No release window was provided. For additional information, explore all the announcements from Konami Press Start Live in June 2025.
Earlier this year in February, Bloober Team confirmed a new partnership with Konami to develop a title based on the Japanese publisher's iconic IP, following the successful launch of the Silent Hill 2 remake. We now know this project is a remake of the first Silent Hill.
Silent Hill first arrived in 1999 on the PlayStation, positioning itself as a competitor to Resident Evil. It introduced the series' signature foggy atmosphere, third-person perspective, and the unsettling town of Silent Hill. The story follows Harry Mason's desperate search for his missing adopted daughter, Cheryl, leading him to encounter unimaginable horrors.
Given that the Silent Hill 2 remake has sold over two million copies, it's no shock that Konami is moving forward with another remake. Remaking the first game was the next logical step. In a recent IGN poll, more than 61% of 20,000 participants voted for the original Silent Hill as the next game in the series they wanted to see remade.
Here is the official statement from Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno, released back in February:
Konami, a legendary force in video games, was searching for a partner to revitalize one of its most iconic series — Silent Hill. Bloober Team was chosen for its mastery of horror and atmospheric storytelling. In 2021, the two companies entered a partnership. During the official Silent Hill Transmission livestream in October 2022, it was revealed that Bloober Team was developing a remake of Silent Hill 2, a game often considered one of the greatest psychological horror titles ever made.
The remake's triumph demonstrated that Bloober Team successfully captured the original's unsettling mood and narrative depth while integrating key modern improvements. The game was praised by players, achieving scores of 86/100 on Metacritic and 88/100 on OpenCritic, and it won several awards, including Game of the Year 2024 from IGN Japan and Best Horror Game from the IGN Community Awards.
The trust earned from the success of Silent Hill 2 paved the way for a new agreement on another project. This deal fits perfectly with Bloober Team's strategic goal of expanding its internal development as a first-party studio.
Our partnership with Konami has been extremely productive, and the performance of Silent Hill 2 is a testament to that. By combining our expertise, we've been able to deliver a high-quality production. We cannot share many specifics at this stage, but we are sure fans will be delighted by our continued collaboration. We eagerly await the moment we can reveal something truly special to players.

The Silent Hill 2 remake launched on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on October 8, 2024 (an Xbox Series X and S version has not been confirmed), and within days it had surpassed one million copies sold. This potentially makes it the fastest-selling game in the franchise's history, though Konami has not officially verified this record.
IGN's review of the Silent Hill 2 remake awarded it an 8/10. Our verdict stated: "Silent Hill 2 offers an excellent opportunity to experience – or return to – one of the most fear-provoking locations in survival horror history."
The strong commercial performance of the Silent Hill 2 remake has clearly reinforced Konami's commitment to the series, with multiple projects now in development. Both Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall are still underway. Now, with the Silent Hill remake also announced, the franchise is gaining significant momentum. A film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 is also in production.
