Lost Soul Aside on Steam Inaccessible for 130+ Countries Due to Sony Restrictions

Lost Soul Aside's Steam release will be unavailable in more than 130 countries due to regional restrictions, disappointing PC players who are now reconsidering purchasing the game. Get insights into these limitations and recent developer interviews regarding the situation.

UltiZero Games' highly anticipated title Lost Soul Aside will face regional limitations upon release, continuing Sony's pattern of restricting access to PlayStation-published titles. SteamDB data reveals the game won't be accessible in over 130 territories lacking PlayStation Network support.

Interestingly, while Lost Soul Aside doesn't mandate PSN accounts, Steam won't display the game in unsupported regions regardless. Players determined to access it must create new Steam accounts registered in PSN-supported countries - a puzzling decision following PlayStation's recent removal of PSN requirements for PC games. The gaming community has voiced strong opposition across social media platforms, with many pledging to boycott the title due to these accessibility barriers.

Fantasy Meets Reality in Lost Soul Aside's Artistic Vision

Maintaining its distinctive style since the 2016 reveal, Lost Soul Aside continues blending fantastical elements with photorealistic aesthetics. UltiZero Games' CEO Yang Bing detailed the title's creative direction during a February 2025 interview with IGN.

Bing confirmed the core vision remains unchanged since the initial trailer, preserving the game's signature high-speed combat and spectacular action sequences. He explained, "This artistic approach has been our guiding principle throughout development. While we've drawn inspiration from contemporary masterpieces, our fundamental style evolved organically from those early concepts into the polished experience we're delivering today."

The developer previously cited Final Fantasy 15's fusion of realism and fantasy as inspiration, particularly evident in protagonist Kaser's design. His stylized facial features and hair contrast deliberately with realistically textured skin, clothing, and environmental details.

Drawing Inspiration From Gaming Legends

Lost Soul Aside pays homage to iconic Japanese franchises including Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry, with noticeable influences across various gameplay elements. Bing discussed these creative inspirations during a February 2025 Famitsu interview.

"Final Fantasy's impact manifests most visibly in Kaser's character design," Bing noted. "We approached his costume design like fashion designers, creating physical prototypes that we digitally reconstructed - similar to FF's process. This method helps Kaser feel like a tangible, believable character despite the fantastical setting."

Regarding combat mechanics, Bing acknowledged PlatinumGames and Capcom's legendary action titles as benchmarks. "We've refined our battle system to maintain blistering speed while adding strategic depth. Players can master complex combos or utilize alternative systems to excel, ensuring accessibility without sacrificing depth."

Lost Soul Aside launches May 30, 2025 for PlayStation 5 and PC. For ongoing updates about the game, explore our continuing coverage below.
