Destruction has been a defining feature of the Battlefield franchise, and DICE appears to be intensifying the chaos and structural damage in the next installment.
A recent video and Battlefield Labs Community Update from the developer offers a glimpse into what’s planned for the series’ upcoming release. Pre-alpha footage shows several destruction mechanics in action—such as blasting a hole through a building’s wall to create an alternate route.

Destruction opens up creative gameplay opportunities. In the update, DICE emphasized its goal to deepen strategy by enabling players to reshape the battlefield. Whether you demolish a wall to set up an ambush or forge a shortcut to an objective, clearing obstacles can be a game-changer.
“We’re developing destruction with clear visual and audio cues so you instantly recognize what can be destroyed or altered during gameplay,” DICE explained. “Our aim is to make destruction a seamless part of the Battlefield experience—creating an engaging, responsive world where you feel in control of your surroundings.”
Different forces impact structures in varied ways. Heavy explosions aren't the only option; sustained gunfire can also weaken walls, allowing players to shoot through them. Real-time audio and visual effects provide feedback as damage accumulates.
The aftermath of destruction also impacts gameplay dynamically. Rubble from collapsed structures remains on the map, offering new tactical cover. It’s clear the next Battlefield is doubling down on environmental destruction.
Referred to informally as “Battlefield 6,” the next game is gradually taking shape. Official details remain limited, though early gameplay leaks have generated positive buzz among fans. Set in a modern era, the title is expected to launch during Electronic Arts’ fiscal year 2026, landing between April 2025 and March 2026. That timeline could still shift depending on competitors' release schedules.
With considerable resources behind its development, the new Battlefield seems to be leaving nothing to chance. Fine-tuning environmental destruction looks like a promising move in the right direction.
