Dead by Daylight's Nightmare Gets a Much-Needed Rework
Freddy Krueger, also known as The Nightmare, is receiving a significant gameplay overhaul in an upcoming Dead by Daylight patch. Currently considered one of the weaker Killers, this rework aims to boost his competitive viability and better reflect his iconic horror persona.
The core change introduces the ability to seamlessly switch between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets, granting Freddy far greater tactical flexibility. These powers themselves are also being updated. Dream Snares will now travel at 12 m/s, navigating walls and stairs, with unique effects depending on whether a Survivor is asleep or awake. Asleep Survivors are hindered, while awake Survivors accumulate additional sleep timer. Dream Pallets, meanwhile, can be triggered to explode, inflicting damage and further impacting the sleep timer based on the Survivor's state.
Further enhancing Freddy's hunting capabilities, the rework includes these key improvements:
- Improved Teleportation: The Nightmare can now teleport to any generator (completed, blocked, or endgame) in the Dream World. Additionally, teleporting to a healing Survivor will place Freddy within 12 meters, revealing nearby Survivors via Killer Instinct and adding to their sleep timer.
- Enhanced Dream World Awareness: Healing Survivors in the Dream World are now revealed by Killer Instinct for the duration of the heal, providing Freddy with prime targeting opportunities.
- Alarm Clock Adjustments: Sleeping Survivors can use any Alarm Clock to wake up, but each clock enters a 45-second cooldown afterward.
These changes are designed to make The Nightmare a more potent and engaging Killer. The teleport cooldown is reduced to 30 seconds (and is no longer cancellable), and several Add-ons will also be adjusted to encourage creative Killer loadouts. While his perks remain unchanged, the overall effect should significantly improve his gameplay experience.
