The creator of a popular Bloodborne 60fps patch has received a DMCA takedown notice from Sony. Lance McDonald, a well-known video game modder, announced on Twitter that Sony Interactive Entertainment requested the removal of links to his patch, which he subsequently complied with.
McDonald highlighted the irony, referencing a past encounter with former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida where he jokingly mentioned creating the Bloodborne 60fps mod. Yoshida's reaction was reportedly laughter.
Bloodborne's continued absence of an official next-gen patch or remaster remains a significant point of contention among fans. While a 60fps mod existed, the recent advancements in PS4 emulation, specifically ShadPS4, allowing for a near-remaster experience on PC at 60fps, may have prompted Sony's action. IGN has reached out to Sony for comment on this speculation.
Earlier this month, Yoshida offered his perspective on Bloodborne's inactivity in an interview with Kinda Funny Games. He theorized that Hidetaka Miyazaki's deep personal attachment to the game and his busy schedule prevent him from authorizing a remaster or update, and that PlayStation respects Miyazaki's wishes. Yoshida emphasized this was merely a personal theory, not leaked information.
Despite the game's near decade-long dormancy since its initial release, a glimmer of hope remains. While Miyazaki often deflects questions regarding Bloodborne, citing FromSoftware's lack of IP ownership, he did acknowledge in February 2023 that a release on more modern hardware would be beneficial. The situation highlights the complex interplay between fan-made modifications, IP rights, and the desires of the game's creator and publisher.
