Tides of Annihilation draws inspiration from the legendary Knights of the Round Table. Players assume the role of Gwendolyn, a courageous young woman who allies with spectral warriors to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
Set in a dystopian modern London overrun by supernatural forces, the game pits players against swarming enemy hordes through the devastated streets. The primary threats are towering armored knights that roam the ruined cityscape - adversaries that players must scale and confront in dramatic vertical combat.
While visually breathtaking, Tides of Annihilation faces a storytelling hurdle. Recent soulslike adaptations of classic tales like "Journey to the West" and Lies of P's Pinocchio reimagining brought fresh perspectives to lesser-known Western stories. Unfortunately, the Arthurian legend, though beautifully rendered here, doesn't offer the same narrative novelty we've come to expect from innovative genre entries.
The game's technical achievements in world-building and combat design remain impressive. However, its reliance on well-trodden Arthurian mythology - compared to its contemporaries' more surprising source material choices - leaves it without that distinctive conceptual edge that helps new IPs stand out.
