MercurySteam, the studio behind Blades of Fire, boasts a lineage deeply rooted in the legacy of Severance: Blade of Darkness. Released in 2001 by Rebel Act Studios, Severance’s groundbreaking limb-severing combat system, a brutal and realistic approach to gameplay, served as a cornerstone of inspiration for Blades of Fire.
But Blades of Fire isn't just a retro throwback. The developers also drew heavily from modern action-adventure giants, notably the cinematic combat and richly detailed world of Santa Monica Studio's God of War reboot. This blend of influences results in a fast-paced action game infused with RPG elements, promising a deeply engaging and immersive experience.
A key feature is Blades of Fire's unique weapon crafting system. Players forge their own blades, meticulously customizing length, weight, durability, and balance to perfectly match their individual fighting styles. This level of personalization ensures a truly tailored combat experience.
The game follows Aran de Lira, a warrior locked in a desperate struggle against a cunning queen with the power to turn metal to stone. His journey will pit him against 50 distinct enemy types, each demanding a strategic and adaptable approach.
Blades of Fire launches on PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 on May 22, 2025.
